Manchester City won 3 – 1 over Everton and close the gap on Liverpool

Manchester City secured the reigning champions and won over Everton after a hard-fought match thanks to two-goal salvo in the second half. Now they are just within five points of Liverpool.

Gabriel Jesus to leap forward and nod beyond Jordan Pickford after Kevin de Bruyne collected possession on the edge of the penalty area and lifted in a first-time cross. The Belgian midfielder had supplied a sumptuous assist which led to the opening goal of the match.

But ten minutes later Everton hit back. Dominic Calvert-Lewin ensured the home side’s leveller by delivering the decisive touch on the goalline. Seamus Coleman lobbed a deft effort over the head of City stopper Ederson while Substitute Alex Iwobi squeezed a pass out wide and showed his quick feet.

Bearing down on goal, Sterling could only place his effort wide of the post although Riyad Mahrez had slotted a defence-splitting pass through the England star. Raheem Sterling squandered a golden opportunity from close range. The players of Man City proved that they could restore their lead on the hour mark.

Mahrez tried his best to dribble down the right. Aguero received the ball near the byline and he crossed. Pickford kicked the ball away, but six yards out and Sterling nearly missed, the ball is leaned back and blootered off bythe underside of the post. But luckily it bounces down and go over the line.

And that’s end of the game! City is just behind the leading Liverpool with five points, but it means they had to work hard to win the next match. Everton ranks fifteen, above the bottom three with two points. But their display against City is much-improved and Marco Silva surely gets goodwill and a little time.
